The new Gateway Center at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry officially opened on September 6 with a green roof that showcases native New York plants. Andropogon worked closely with the SUNY ESF faculty to test and select natural plant communities from the Lake Ontario Dunes and Alvar Grasslands, which grow in soil conditions similar to those of conventional green roof media. Funded by a CNYREDC Green Innovation Grant, the Gateway Center roof will demonstrate how native plants adapted to harsh growing conditions can provide habitat and promote biodiversity, while also enhancing this outdoor event and classroom space and improving building performance.  Monitoring will help assess the green roof design in order to inform future projects.

gotta remember to go up there when it warms up
